Having spoken to some folks at the motorshow and then the local dealership over the weekend there seems to be mixed opinions of whether a more focued version will be released, the dealer said that there likely wouldn't be one where-as the folks on the shown stand said it would be around for the end of next year. Has anyone heard anything more concrete?

I pored over the demo car on Saturday and it certainly is build to a better standard, although the interior is worrying similar to my wife's Grand Scenic!

One thing that shocked me was the car was over £17.5k with just a few options (Climate, paint, wheels and a few other bits). Half leather and climate control are now options where I'm sure that they were standard on all 172/182s except the Cup/Trophy versions. Even with the discount that will be available, this is a hell of a starting figure...

Rumours are only that at the minute - rumours.

Theres not as much standard equipment to be able to strip from a 197 to make it a cup version. In reality, I feel a cup version will be something akin to a 182 Cup (when compared to a 182 fullfat) - that is, only a tiny bit lighter, maybe a smidge less kit, but added bodykit, different wheels and suspension. I think chances are it'll look a fair bit better but in reality there wont be a huge difference.

As for a trophy, who knows. Nobody to my knowledge has heard any such rumour of such a car.

Most people i know of who have driven the 197 state that although it can corner faster than a 182, it is less involving to drive, and feels significantly less urgent in the performance stakes.

That's what I've heard from EVO and other people I've spoken to. My hope is like the Megane Cup and Trophy versions over the standard 225, the Cup will be an enthusiants car with trick suspension, more though about steering feedback etc. As it sounds like it is a great starting point with the real-world speed it has combined with the chassis subtlely.
