Any Pug experts out there? My trusty 405 TD has recently started to run hot when on a run, it's fine around town, with the aircon going the water temp stays at just over the 70 degree mark like it's always done but recently at, say a steady 70mph the temp gradually increases with speed. When the gauge gets to about 90 degrees I back off the throttle and the temp starts to go down. The oil and water levels are fine and it's not leaking anywhere so I dunno whats happening.

I would change the thermostat and fan sensor to start with , if they don't work change the rad or give it a good flush .

If engine stays cool when stationary then fans and their stat are OK. Most likely is either thermostat isn't opening enough or the radiator itself is clogged up (either inside or out) so it can't provide enough cooling to get the engine temp down.

I'll try the stat first I think, the rad is hot all over after a run, would there be cold spots if it was blocked? Thanks for your replies by the way

I had a customer witha bx td (same engine etc) and his only overheated when he tried to tow with it ,the rad felt hot all over but ended up being the culprit so don't discount it .
