Peugeot 306 probs...

Right then people... the time has come for action...
My car has been off the road for about two months now- first whilst I sourced a decent secondhand gearbox and then when we had the box it was discovered the flywheel was mashed so I've spent quite some time looking for one of those. It seems there is very little knowledge of interchangability on the gearbox and flywheel front but fortunately I was able to read up and look into the gearbox issue myself. Unfortunately, the flywheel seems to be an entirely more difficult problem.
Anyhow, basically after having absolutely no luck with second hand flywheels- i.e. no one removes them and the few that I have come across that had been removed didn't fit- I've asked the garage to get me prices of all new parts to repair my sickly XSi. I assume they are going to phone me back later with a hooooge figure that is going to mean that I have to make a call on whether or not it is worth fixing: thus far the car cost me £1,300 and then I spent £150 on brake components and then the gearbox blew up!!
I'm going to have to judge whether or not it is going to be broken for spares or fixed- depends whether something else may fall off the moment I collect it I guess!
But (finally) onto the point of my post- if they phone me back with a sizeable estimate am I better off just sourcing a scrapped engine and asking them to fit that instead as the prices for a new flywheel seem to be about the price of a whole engine!! And if so, what engine and box combination would one go for? i.e. what is the most straightforward using original mounts and such?
It's a 5 door 306 XSi on an N-plate btw (2.0 8v).
Any help appreciated!!
