I have finally made the purchase of a 205 1.9 GTI and I love it. However after having driven her home i now have to wait 2 weeks before the main insurance kicks in when im 21.

One little niggle with it though is allthough it has jus passed its mot, the handbrake light is seeming a bit tempremental?? Is this just a loose connection as the handbrake works or something more?

I could be wrong but I think the handbrake light is also the brake fluid level warning. If its just passed the MOT it is likely to be a loose wire.

Oh you git I'm so jealous; an AMAZING car! I would dearly love to buy one again - I used to have one (it was my first car )

Check the connection on top of the brake reservoir, clean the contacts etc, and check the fluid is topped up - it could be that causing the flickering.

If you tell me it's graphite grey with red carpet interior, I'll hate you lots and lots and lots

I passed my test at 17 and drove my mum's 205 XL for a year, then at the age of 18 I bought the GTi. On a £2k car (it was an '88E 1.9) insurance was £1300 for TPF&T.

For insurance though you can't beat my second car; an Escort Cosworth ('93L Cosworth Lux) which I bought aged 19...insurance was £4,500 for a £13k car

(I was FAR from rich, I just like my cars )

If you have a digital picture on your computer, go to www.tinypic.com and upload it.

when done, copy the link it gives you.

Then write a post and write [pic](insert link tinypic gives you)[/pic]

and job done

Ah well! Always wanted to find that car again and buy it back - I loved it to bits! 3yrs after selling I was in a pub garden (the front) and saw it drive past. Scared the living daylights out of my friends as mid conversation I jumped up and ran to the road to try to stop him but alas he didn't see me and drove on!

Probably long gone; doesn't take much to write them off at that age!

How many miles has your car done? I see it's a mk1 (so latest F'89?). Wheels look in good nick too (though picture may not show particularly well).

Ah shame that. It's a Mk1 '87 and yer for the most part the wheels are excellent as is most of the car! Its done 114k which i thought was good for the age and it doesn't show!

welcome to owning the best car for <£1k

the car will teach you so much about driving, your next few months should be the finest of your driving life. they may also be the most problematic, but you cant avoid it with french cars unfortunately!

www.205gtidrivers.com has got absolutely everything covered, although it can be a bit of an arse to join (you have to swear to abide by the rules etc etc)
