Hello everyone.

I was just wondering if anyone could help me with this. I have a 2001 (Y) Clio 172, and it seems to have developed an idleing problem!

When the engine comes up to temperature the idle becomes irregular, and often the car just cuts out. It is becoming very frustrating, and i'm often given no warning of the impending stall. The car is fitted with a Magnex exhaust.

I am having the car serviced on thursday, and would like to be specific as to the problem when dealing with the garage.

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated,

Thank you

Does the temp gauge start to go all over the place?

My 182 did this for the first 3 months and it was the Temp Sensor Gauge that was faulty. It sends lots of mixed messages to the ECU and the Idle goes crazy and stalls. It also then floods the engine as it thinks the temperature is either too high or too low.

It took three attempts for Renault to believe the diagnosis I had got from cliosport.net as the problem is intermitent...

No, the temp gauge is very consistent, it warms up slightly more in traffic, but generally its very good. the idle is fine when cold, but when the engine gets up to temp, the idle speed drops from around 900rpm to about 600, stays there for a bit, and then she starts to cut out!

I've been told to adjust the idle control valve is this the right thing to do?
just from experience, i've noticed that with a non standard exhaust this happens. Had a 205 1.9 GTI and experienced the same problems. However I sold that one before I could really diagnose the problem!

Any help much appreciated!
Thank you

Normally they would have 2 sensors one for the ECM and one for the dash it is most likeley that the one that senses for the ECM is faulty .Had a xsara couple of weeks ago with same fault ,ECM thought it was -47.Ran like a bag of sh**e and didn't want to start when hot without full throttle .

is the magnex a cat back or is it a full system?

if the latter, it is possible that the lamda has been interfeared with and will be sending dodgy messages back to the ECU

Pugs are particlary bad for this anyway, and they're both french
