Why is it every hatch I'm looing at turns out to be utter shite. Evey single car I've seen so far turns out to have a couple of grand worth of Kev'd up mods like dvd player (ffs) and delocked doors, but they can't even afford a proper service! Most laughable recent one had nothing done in the last 20k miles. Not even a drop of oil or a filter. Unfortunately these cars seem to attract pond life.

Tell me about it.

I just bought a Hdi D Turbo 3dr 306 and I had to pay over the odds for a one mature owner FPSH one. The rest were just knackered, with patchy or no history, many owners, dodgy panels, poorly advertised sheds!

Still, worth it when you find a good one. Just surprises me how many people buy cars for ALOT of money really, then just abuse them and let them turn to shite, and do cheap DIY repairs instead of through insurance, and make their car worth half as much and un-saleable.

When I read "no time wasters" on ads, I actually wonder if it's them who will be wasting my time by having me come see a total shit heap of a car!

It's also a waste of time placing a wanted ad. You ask for full main dealer service history and no modifications & no time wasters please. Next thing you get some burberry plank phone up saying "me mate dave did the last service in his front garden 3 years ago, changed one plug and topped up the old oil with chip fat. But it has go a wikkid £2000 stereo and a pile of plastic shit bolter on".

bout 5 years ago i bought my first 205 gti,it was a 1.6,belonged to a young lad,had the big exhaust etc,the usual rubbish but it was wanked out, well was only 350 ,second one i paid 1400 for from a woman owner it was completly unmolested, regulaly serviced, good oil, peugeot filters, and i paid the most i could afford,so now i have had 3 years trouble free motoring and nice standard car which is rare these days as most are modded or abused in some way and a whole heap of fun.moral is avoid modders and boy racers go for the long time owner and pay the extra, its worth it.

So why not go to a dealer or do you want a good quality S/H car at a pond life price?

The price is irrelevant. Finding a tidy car is next to impossible at any price.

Rallye, 106. I just want a proper main dealer service history without mods or intergalactic mileage. It's impossible.

(I know there's a low miler on PH classifieds but it has a totally modified body, so it's worth at least £1000 less than an original example)
