That's pretty good especially if you're using the original 8v, possibly a little lean!
My old 8V got around 28mpg where as the 16v can get up to 38mpg on long constant runs.

30 to 35mpg is about right for a 1.9 8v in good tune not being driven hard.

Yep, worked it out over a tank. 34.8 mpg, i think it's safe to call it 35.
Quite happy with that, considering it's a 15 year old 1.9!!

35mpg was what I used to get out of my 1.9 as well with varied driving.

My new 1.9 runs on 4 star leaded still-can i expect a similar mpg?

Also ive heard of some cars being converted to unleaded is this expensive?

Its not needed, all can run on unleaded with no problems.

Really? The previous owner said it had to be 4 star leaded?!
Life will be much easier if I can just run it on unleaded.

Yep unleaded is fine. The only reason they suggest you use leaded is for the octane rating. Run her on 98 and it will be fine. On 95 you'll have to retard the timing which will in inturn loose power.
