Went and collected it today, 2000 V, V6 Executive with all the toys bar sat nav, 79k on the clock, China blue with black leather, FSH. Drive back from Reading to up in these 'ere Fens was pretty straight forward. I suspect I'll miss the BMWs economy but I was quite enjoying the V6s poke.
Last few miles I did on the back roads just to test things out. OK it's no hoon machine but it's fun enough for something of it's size. Couldn't feel more different to the BMW though, steering and clutch are feather light. Ride is smoooooth but not huge amounts of body roll, it managed the terrible roads around here well enough, 'spec I'll get the hang of it
It's fun enough just playing with the electric seats! Seat goes up, seat goes down, seat goes up, seat goes down....
Cheers,
Rob

Hi there,
well done on your purchase, not bad motors these, they do eat their way thru coil packs a bit, and if the belt hasnt been changed recentley, Id advise getting it done,
handling wise they are a bit boat like, but ive driven much worse,
V was on the changeover to the later VVT V6 motor, cambelts easier to do on these, if its an earlier one its a bit of a nightmare!
Them electric seats are fun, back in around 97 I remeber someone buying a 2.1 406 Exec from another dealer I worked for, he too was impressed with the electic seats, and the story goes as he was about to demonstrate to his missus just what you could do with a seat fully reclined, it caught fire....... killed the mood I wouldve thought haha those were the days...
Happy motoring mate

Hi Ross,
Yep, I was thinking about booking it in for a service at my local indy anyway. Everything looks good, but I can't see any reference to belts being changed in the service history, so better safe than sorry!
Well I can't find anything definite to confirm which engine it is, the only clue I've got is that the VIN has 8EXFX (going from memory) which is the later engine code, surely too much of a coincidence not to mean it has the VVT unit. I'm glad to hear the belts are easier to change as well - result
Ooo-errr! First thing my gf did was lay the seat back as far as it goes. Unfortunately not for any interesting reason, she just wanted to see if she'd be able to sleep in it - lucky me eh?!!
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob all good stuff,
Easy way to tell if its got the later engine, is if its a silver engine cover with a big V6 written on it
Earlier ones had V624 in the bottom left corner of the cam cover and a big rubber handle on the dipstick.....
hehe, yours shouldnt catch fire, theyd learnd how to build em on a V plate
all the best mate

Woohoo!! I've got a big silver cover with V6 on it!! Can't believe I've actually got one over on a car dealer, they thought it was the earlier type.
Booked in this Friday for the full works, bet that'll be cheap, even at my local indy
Cheers,
Rob

You are indeed a prophet (although someone else is about to make a profit!) Engine light came on on Thursday and the car was running very rough, garage have diagnosed 2 dead coil packs, one at the back of course. Eurocarparts.com is listing them at about £130 each so I can only expect to become lighter of wallet on Monday when the second pack gets delivered - hurray!
Cheers,
Rob
GASP!!!
Car's back and all for the princely sum of a tad over £120!! Eurocarparts steered me right of track with their listings, the coil packs I got were about £19ea, so no complaints here and an engine back to being smoooooth and yet a little frisky
Which of course means I can now carry big stuff around again so I'm back to DIY misery
Cheers,
Rob
