We have had our C4 for nearly 4 months and in that time it has covered just under 5K miles.

From the outset it required new rear shock absorbers and I am delighted to say that after waiting nearly 4 months they were fitted this afternoon. I am delighted to say that it has cured the creaking noise that was present at low speed.

Whilst it was with the dealer I decided to report that the exterior door handles would stick in the open position so they adjusted them for me. The biggest surprise was when I was told that the car would need to go in again next month to have modified calipers and pads fitted to resolve a high pitched groan when applying the brakes and reversing.

I have to say that I am really dissapointed with the amount of time that the car seams to be spending back at the dealers.

Sorry to hear this Catherine,

I am fast coming to the conclusion that the French althoughgood at Wine, Cheese and rioting cannot build cars to save their lives.

I cannot see why the British public keep buying them... if it is price then why not buy a used Jap or Focus. I cannot for the life of me see the logic. They don't even drive well to compensate...

Hopefully this will be the last of your troubles and you don't end up on first name terms with the receptionist like I am at Renault after having my Laguna for only a month.

Paul.

The British public keep buying them because of the VFM money factor. You argue a Hyundai is better VFM, but with a mostly style obsessed culture over here with city types etc, French are the best option as they usually make stylish cars.

I like the C4, but most new French cars are pap now, and if it has anything to do with the 307 its doomed!

I think Evo or Autocar also had doorhandles which stayed sticking out on their C4 VTS.....

I brought a Citroen C2 VTS in December and have recieved 4! recall letters so far concerning various issues, have also suffered creaking suspension which the dealers have not been able to fix on a further 4 visits and havent even supplied a manual for it yet. But I will say its a cracking hot hatch IMO looking forward to taking it on a track day. Thats if the suspension dosent collapse.

It gets better. On the AA's recall website they are showing a series of VIN numbers. My car is smack in the middle of the series. Allegedly there is a risk of engine bay fire due to something associated with the ABS shortciruiting if saline gets into it.

So I called the dealer to ask if the work had been done. The reply was "No", but we will check with our warranty person to make sure it doesn't need doing. They called me back 15 minutes later to say it doesn't need recalling. Would you believe the Citroen dealer who tells you it is normal for the car to have creaking suspension, a jumping cd player and a poor functioning air con system or the AA?

My C4 coupe has been back to the dealership 17 times (excluding it's scheduled services and recalls) in a year. it's had problems ranging from 2 (yes 2!) new turbo's, sensors, speakers, climate control (4 times = 4 different parts) and more. The car I love has spent well over a month in various citroen service centres (and it's there now!). Citroen's customer service has been appaling, no one can actually decide who's responsibility it is - they even had the nerve to tell me I needed a new car and proceded to try and SELL me another brand new one - mine only just covering the outstanding fainance.

Safe to say I would never buy another Citroen again. ever.

had the door handle sticking problem with mine on the passenger handle - had it checked when it went in for a recall on the brakes - seems a squirt of WD40 is all that is needed.

nowt else went wrong in the 8months/18k miles i did.

Mine's got another 2 parts on order at the moment. Citroen Sydenham have been far more helpful than any of the others so far.... fingers crossed...

Quite frankly I have had enough. So on Saturday the car will be changed for an Astra VXR. The dealer was on the verge of persuading me to swap the car for another C4 (a VTS at a very favourable rate) or a 307CC.

The final straw was driving 15 miles to take the car in for the rear brakes to be resolved. When I got there the most unhelpful chap behind the counter told me the parts were on back order (de ja vue) and he couldn't tell me when they were coming in.

I have since found out that they will arrive on the 7th May. Personally I feel having to wait 4 weeks for a safety related item is disgraceful.

Good move, I don't blame you. (Although I'd have a Focus ST!!)

I find it laughable how bad these French cars are, but that is only cos it is a company car. My Laguna is in having it's gearbox done. Been in since Tuesday, but they keep finding more problems and things to do with it, so I'm not sure when I'll get it back!!

They gave me a Megane as a courtesey car, but I'm not driving it as things keep falling off!! I've borrowed a spare focus that was at work which is soooo much better. I can't believe Renault are still around in business with such poor product!!

Well done for seeing the light.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

The reason we went for the Astra was we already have a Vectra VXR and we are absolutely delighted with it. So it seamed the natural choice.

Seems like I've buckd the trend, had a Xsara 1.9d ended up with 140,000 on the clock found it to be vv reliable and have got a C4 (company car) okay only with 4,000 on the clock but have had nary a squeek from it.

By comparison have had three of the new Astras and every one has had major electrical faults.

i bought a citroen c4 grand picasso 3 months ago. the first day i had it i noticed a knocking noise coming from the front drivers wheel. I took the car in and they advised me that there was nothing wrong, however the boot lining needed replacing!!

the knocking has increasingly got worse, to which i took the car the back. They first changed the drive shaft, then stripped down the front suspension.....and finally changed the anti roll bar bushes.

After they had the car 3 weeks, they returned it to me, but the knocking noise was still there. i took the car to kwick-fit who said showed me that the sub frame was loose.

I took the car back to citroen who were MOST unhelpfull, where the technician called me to ask ME what was wrong with the car!!! They called me to say that 5 bolts were loose, they have tightened them and that the car is now ok to drive!!!

the service i have received from citroen is appalling and i cannot believe that they will nto take responsibility for the problems on the car, in only 3 months (4k miles)!!!

i will be sure that i do not recommend a citroen to any of my family and friends.

and as per quote from citroen "fingers crossed, we hope that has solved the problem".......how assuring!!!
