172 Cup /182 comparison
Discussion
Just wondering how the 172 cup drives compared to a 182 with cup pack? I drove a 182 with a view to purchasing a while back, but it was absolutly awful. Really girly light steering, terrible seating position and so slow i could have done a cross-word while driving it!(tho i put that down to a 500 mile engine at the dealership).
Im now once again tierd of replcaing clutches and the like on my current car and im looking to change. Just like to know if id be wasting my time even trying to find a 172 cup to drive? Id like to think as it seems a more focused car that the steering would more 'meaty'? Seats can always be changed and horsepower can always be added. But if it 'feels' and steers like a 182 then ill have to look elsewhere???
Thanks.

Thats a bit harsh.
Oh well... i've got a 182. I dare say the 172 Cup is probably fairly similar handling, its a bit lighter, but I cant imagine the steering being any heavier, could be wrong. Its not really any quicker either. You have to thrash these cars to get the performance out of them, so if you werent thrashing it, then they do feel quite sluggish if your used to something with more torque.
Edit: Just looked at your profile - i'm surprised you dont think a 182 is quicker than a 106 Rallye, I can tell you now they are MUCH faster.

ah yes but i have a 16v engine with big valve head, cams, dta, jenveys and 144@wheels , a genuine 167bhp. 200/tonne but im fed up of the 'maintance' so looking to sacrafice some overall performance for a better 'package'. if you see what i mean. trouble is ive got a pretty raw car, no pas etc. and found the 182 too 'light'. i guess i was harsh, and given the keys for free id still swap mine for one - as i say, a much better package. i was hoping the 172 cup might fit slightly inbetween my car and the 182??
Ah fair enough, if you got all that power under the bonnet the 182 probably will feel slow TBH
Thing is, the 182's are like most modern cars, fairly refined, not as much so as a lot of stuff there, but compared to your Rallye, certainly very refined, which of course, kills the impression of speed.
TBH, a cup will be a bit more raw than a normal one, but to be honest theres not much in it performance wise, and its still going to feel tame compared to what you have. And when you take that into account, perhaps you may as well have the toys of the full fat one.
Only way to see is to try it really.
