Hi guys, just been given a Laguna mk2 for a company car, fortunately not for too long as it only has till Oct to run on it's lease then I can pick a new car.

Amongst the expected list of annoying niggles such as rear parking sensors not working, rear wash not squirting and other random electrical gremlins, there is one much more serious fault... The headlights which are Xenon and don't have any levelling adjustment wheel are set so low that they are dangerous. You literally can't see more than 20 foot in front of you and this limits you to a safe speed of about 20mph on an unlit road.

Is this a common problem, or are they just simply out on this car? I'm going to brave the dealer today and see what they have to say...

Paul.

Xenon lights are not allowed to have an internal adjuster wheel. They are levelled automatically by use of a pair of height sensors, one on the N/S/F and one on the rear axle. When switching on the lights you should see the adjuster motors work by raising the beam high and then back down to the correct level. It happens quite quickly so keep your eyes open. Probably got a fault with the level sensors, default is to set the beam low.

Thanks for that Mr Jenks, I thought it might be something like that having seen in the handbook that they should adjust automatically. I tried the dealer today but they weren't able to do anything as they were too busy.

I'm going to take it in on Monday to get it sorted.

Thanks,

Paul.

My fathers Laguna has the same problem with the main beam being fine but the dipped is absolutely atrocious.

As Mr Jenks has said they are xenon and therefore self-adjusting so we took the car back to Renault, complained about the terrible lights and got them to sort out the auto-adjuster. On my fathers car the auto adjuster wasnt actually doing anything at all. Usually when you turn the lights on to start with you can see them move up and down before settling (park in fornt of a wall or similar to see it) but his just wasnt doing this. May be worth checking on yours whether they do auto-adjust or not ?

Having said that though I think the lights on dipped are bad anyway, cerainly worse than my 16yr old 205 at any rate :S

It went into Renault today and they adjusted them, didn't say anything was broken or faulty, just a matter of adjusting them...

Definitely a lot better now, at least I can drive at night, although they are only average at best, they are usable now.

Thanks,

Paul.
