Morning all,

I'm going to see a 106 XSi on saturday, and i'm hoping the collective brains on here can turn me into someone who knows what to look for by then!

Its a really really nice example (in the classifieds here), white, 100k, lots of history.

I just want to know what i should be looking out for on the XSi. I've been into Jap metal for ages, and now i just want to make sure i buy a good 'un.

Any help very appreciated

Thanks,

BXKitch

Probably a bit late, but main points are:

Check for:

Blown head gasket
Gearboxes made of cheese....check syncros on 2nd and 3rd
Rear axle trailing arm bearings....they wear and the cars are very tail happy so check for kerb impact.

Don't worry so much about tappy noises....the tappets are adjustable and the injectors are noisy. The clutch release bearing will probably be noisy too.
Idle control valves/steppers are known to be shagged...if it idles badly make a big fuss over it then get it cheaper and fix it....they're not more than £100 to buy new.

Thats about it really. Good fun little car...only bettered in that phase by the Rallye and its superior version of the TU engine.

I second what that guy said, pal, but also look out for cv joints and boots that are shot, engine mounts that are broken, head gasket problems, where the front pipe meets the manifold usually goes on them, brake master cylinders, and electric window motors. Oh, and door check straps. the last thing you want is the door swinging right open and getting the typical half-moon shaped dent at the front edge of the doors. If you are interested, I have a lovely 1995 Miami Blue example for sale. There's pictures available at www.myspace.com/joydivisionchris.
