I've been telling my girlfriend to get one of these because they look great and are probably fairly cheap to run. Plus 306's drive well but I suspect the cab is not so hot?
Did they only come in 2.0 in the UK? That's all I could see when I got an insurance quote. Even so it came out at £630 versus ~£420 for her 106 1.1 so surprisingly not too much more expensive.
Is it the nasty 2.0 8v? Is there a 16v as well? And is there also an S16 (GTi-engined) version? Is the 'roadster' different? Is the roof electric? Does it leak? Is it as sensible to own as a Golf cabriolet?
What's it like to run? My family runs an independent garage which helps.. but it's just I'm sure she'll feel guilty if it's always being fixed or causing headaches!!

We had a 2.0 16v 306 Cab for about 2 years and we had no trouble with it at all during the 2 years, although on the day we px'd it the roof stopped going the full way down, leaving the rear cover sticking up about 10mm.
Apart from that I would buy another one tomorrow, but we have too many toys already.
I thought that they did make a 1.8 in the UK
I think they are one of the nicest looking cabs around when the roof is down (prepare to be shot down )

Hi there,
In the UK there is available, a 1.6 8v (avoid) a 1.8 16v (avoid) and a 2.0 8v (avoid) and a 2.0 16v, the one to go for.
Both the 1800 and 2000s suffer from oil leaks, and especially on the 16 valvers premature cambelt failure, seen loads let go when they were new out, even though they were never the best selling motors. Roof pump rams can leak into the boot area, wiring looms under the front bumper are known to rot and cause bother, also with all 306s the door looms arent the best neither, if you find a gooden you wont look back, the 2.0 16v is fairly nippy for the weight, and the handling isnt too bad neither.....buy a dog and itll cost a fortune to repair!
