Peugeot. And get rid of it while you're there.

Not much help, but I'm working on Mum to get rid of hers as it is a piece of cr&p, drives woefully, keeps falling apart, has been in for minor detail repairs regularly and the dealer couldn't care less. Having a friend who is a Peugeot mechanic and his Dad worked for Peugeot for years, they were chuffed that we got one, but know excatly what they're like and are not surprised in the least by it's regular failings. (Thanks for telling me that before we bought the car ).

Sorry, but I think the 307 is the only car I hate. Having to drive one now and again is infuriating.

I think alot of the problem with Peugeots is that people DO use main dealers.

My car has been nothing but solid (touch wood) since I got it. I did take it to the dealer to have a cambelt fitted, and yo and behold when I got it home I had to re-mount the radiator clip which was just bodged in (failure or bad fitting causes excessive vibration during fan operation, fracturing radiator prematurely or causing excessive hose wear), clipping fuel lines into the appropriate rail clips correctly. Replacing several wheel arch liner clips, removing and replacing with new a grille clip which was broken when removed.

My cambelt is still on and seems fine, seems they did the hard bit properly, but all the easy bits were just done with little care.

I honestly believe the build is generally good, it's letting monkeys work on them. My other half had a 206, was fine and worked great until Peugeot had their hands on it. Head gasket, no, skimmed the head, no actually, didn't do that it turns out, but they left the fuel return pipe hanging off a bit which leaked half a tank of fuel in a short distance EEKKK!

Cretins.

Had a fair few Pugs in my time, as has my brother, bought them with FSH, had problems, fixed them *properly* or replaced parts, to never have them fail again!

Honestly, blame the bad initial build and the follow up service and maintainance work that Peugeot do, since they actually make the cars WORSE by working on them from my experience over the years. Seeing some of the cars we've bought that have had FSH is just astonishing. Think they used to be alot better back in the 80's, but now their service departments are just dire!

My 306 is probably the last type I'll ever own, though from what I read it's only niggles that really is a problem on more modern Pugs. It's those that Peugeot can't fix, but if you get on a forum there is likely a super easy fix that takes 5 mins to do... just Pug UK being useless and not knowing their own cars one bit, and not managing to fix the niggly problems that make them the worst in the UK (or one of the worst, was on Top Gear a few weeks back)

Agreed, I only drive Mums 307 about once a month at most, and every time there seems to be something wrong. Off the top of my head... indicator stalk, wiper stalk, horn, sunglasses holder, drivers carpet, passanger front door surround (plastic), drivers door rubber, remote locking, auto wipers, damp in the boot, boot lock, windscreen washer bottle... I think thats it! It was bought new in March '03, but Mum is happy enough as the dealer is around the corner and they pick it up and deliver it back at her beck-and-call! I actually don't think shes cleaned the car as they keep doing it for her! She much preferes my Golf though, so come change time it'll be off somewhere else.

Hi there, what engine's in the 307?

Intermittent fault with cutting out will proabably be silicone on the engine ECU and it's connectors, as for intermittantley losing gears, sounds like the change cables giving greif, theres a modified set available.

Cheers

It's a 1.6 petrol.

There was an "electrics" issue some time ago and there have been a couple of recalls.

Are there any super ace service agents around Pernrith ?

From the sounds of it it just needs a good fettling --- bodging prohibited !

We hope !!

Hi there,

Is the fault still occuring, how old is the car?

The last two recalls on 307s were one for the PAS pump assembley, and the newest is an ABS Recall.

Have you had the fault codes read?

cheers

Hi there,

The recall X9F is an ABS Safetey recall, with a possibility of there being resistance in the ABS circuit causing a short, which in the most extreme cases could lead to a fire in the engine compartment.

If you havent recieved a recall notification through the post, the car may not be affected but its worth checking with your dealer.

cheers

Thanks Rosco, it's my daughters car and I'll suggest it.

It's had a recent recall, so I presume everything is now up to date.

Is there anything else else in particular she should ask the dealer to check ?

Thanks again for the feedback

Hi mate,

Just explain to them the **exact** problems you and/or your daughter is having with the wonderful french creation, they should know how to act upon this (a good explanation always helps, receptionists at dealers are getting poorer now IMO)

The last recall before the X9F was the X8Z power steering pump recall, some of these were done late, but its still worth checking anways.

If its cutting out at speed Id suggest a speed sensor fault, relating to the BSi. As said its in warranty, so they should be able to sort it.

As for gearbox problems, The boxes in these arent the worlds best and are as nothchy as ! A stripdown and rebuild may be required.
Sorry about the late reply by the way...

Best of luck getting it sorted if you havent already

Cheers Ross
