Citroen C4 1.6 HDI Automatic Gearbox Fault

Hoping there is a Citroen Guru out there - I can’t find anything on the interwebs.

The other half has just got herself a 2011 Citroen C4 as a runabout, within 24 hours of ownership it is showing a gearbox fault and will only use gears 1st, 2nd and 3rd in manual mode only, so must be some form of limp mode.

I’ve found other people having similar problems, but can’t seem to find an obvious answer. Hoping it’s a simple fix but doesn’t look likely.

I just needed to ask that i have the exact same issue with my c4,
Bought it yesterday drove fine for like 30 miles and then ended up getting gearbox faulty message and gears wont shift past 3rd gear with auto light blinking.
If i can get a followup whether you got your issue fixed or no?

I believe this is the AL4 box. First thing is to check the gearbox fluid level, change the fluid if you can. The solenoids fail, there is plenty on the web if you google it. Pretty troublesome unfortunately.

Completely forgot I put this thread up.

It was a bugger to diagnose, but it turned out to be the brake switch (a £5 part of all things). Well fingers crossed anyway as it’s not played up since.

I can’t tell you how much of a mare it was to figure out what was wrong. It got that bad I booked it into a gearbox specialist for a rebuild.

It wasn’t until I happened to come up behind my partner I noticed it’s brake lights were on solid.
