106 XS 1.4 - BUDGET RACE SPEC GUIDE - HELP
Discussion
Hi everyone,
First post and first direct contact with psa group and thank you in advance for having me and helping me.
I need your help to guide me in the preparation of a car to race in a category of obstacles that we call slalom, a kind of very short gymkhana, to give you an idea one of the last layouts was an oval with straights of 65 meters with 1 chicane the midle of each straight.
The regulations are divided into classes, the most accessible being up to 1400cc, and I decided to choose the psa group (ax/205/106/saxo) to race.
Light, agile and with quick exit from the curve will be the most important.(I think...)
I wanted to do something low budget with a budy and my girlfriend (i work in a car parts department of a dealership ,he's a mechanic and she is mechanical engineer ) but somehow competitive against rallye/gt/xsi , nova sr/gt.
The opportunity arose to acquire a 106 s1 XS 1360cc (KDX (TU3MC), KDY (TU3M) )
I ask for your help to get some power out of this motor, since it would have to continue at NA and 8V.
Gearbox I think the rallye would be the best but the prices are out of budget. What would be the alternative? Can i swap heads, camshaft, apply bike carbs..?
For now my idea is:
CHASSIS
-COILOVERS
- POWERFLEX TYPE BUSHING
- RIMS
- SEMISLICK TIRES
-UPGRADE BRAKING (I don't know if it's that important since it's such a short circuit)
-UPGRADE REAR AXLE ??
BODYWORK
-LOSE WEIGHT (ONLY THE CAR, THE DRIVERS ARE IN SHAPE)
- STRUT BARS FRONT AND REAR
TRANSMISSION??(CHOOSE SHORT GEAR RALLY/XSI/1.1 ??)
- DIFFERENTIAL BLOCK KIT
-SHORT SHIFT
MOTOR ??
-HEAD SWAP???(RALLYE/XSI/VTR)
-COLD AIR INTAKE
-HEADERS 4-2-1
-FREE FLOW EXHAUST
I thank again who can show me the way..

My thoughts: below:
For budget Bilstein shocks and eibach springs are good. Or get some Faulkner ones so harder and helps with braking and turn in. Don’t get a cheap coilover kit as will be crap. Thicker rear anti roll bar will help turn in, or just set rear suspension higher and pump up rear tyres!
Front brake upgrade probably only needs decent fluid, pads and discs for this activity. Anything else adds weight. Leave rear as is.
Decent tyres will certainly help.
Front upper and lower braces are available. Won’t need rear due to design. Weight removal helps a lot, Perspex windows?
Gearbox - the xsi box is actually very good. Quaife diff will help if you ensure both wheels always on the ground. What kills boxes is full throttle acceleration with tight steering angles so need to drive it sensibly. Whatever anyone says the 1.1 box is rubbish as does not have the sport cluster.
Head - porting/polishing and cam will help but ideally need ecu to make the best use and driveability.
Intake - bike carbs or modify the standard intake to ensure lowest temps
Manifold - the stainless 4-2-1 manifolds on eBay seem to work ok
Exhaust - peugeot sport system works best on these engines.
Hopefully that helps.
