Trying to find a car for my son. He is learning in a 208, so we figured that he should be able to fit in a 207 as well (he's well over 6' unlike me smile ). Due to insurance it looks like the 75HP 1.4 'Verve' is a reasonable option for him as although he will be 23 by the time he takes his test, trying to keep it reasonable.

I've found a couple for sale locally. Just trying to find out about any known issues, or things to look out for on this age/model? I'm handy with tools myself, but don't want to stitch myself up with having to do or pay for some major job within months of getting it as I've got my own old car to work on when I retire soon. smile

They all seem to leak a bit of oil from the front left of the head gasket as you look at it.

Thanks for the feedback: I've not managed to get to look at any for sale yet due to the good ones going before we could get to them. Will look out for that, if only as a lever to the price.

Head gasket issues are quite common on the TU3 engines, especially if coolant hasn't been changed as per the maintenance schedule.

Thanks; I was trying to find cars with some sort of service history, but obviously at the age I'm looking at not many of them do have one.

To be fair, I've been running mine for the past 3 years and circa 18k miles with an oil leak from the head gasket.

Its never got any worse, and hasn't mixed with the coolant as of yet. I only paid 400 quid for the car, so can't really justify the cost of getting is sorted, well not in my head anyway. Its never got any worse, and when the oil gets to a certain level, it stops leaking. biggrin

I bought a 58 plate 1.4 207 in 2013 at 30k miles as a learner car/station snotter. A mate who's a Peugeot dealer gave it the once over and advised that the head gasket was leaking oil and did I want if fixed. I chose not to and 9 years later one of my daughters uses it as her daily and has racked up over 100k miles with no problems.

Its actually amazingly reliable particularly as maintenance is a bit hit and miss in my daughter's ownership biglaugh

That's good to hear: For a first car we didn't want to spend a fortune, but still get something decent enough that he can drive on the motorway if he gets a new job that he hopes for once he is mobile (currently working local and walking to work!).

Had a look at Fiestas last weekend, but they are older/higher mileage for the same money and so far they were all pretty scruffy too. Just a waiting game to see if a decent one/decent price comes up that isn't one of the more powerful/higher insurance groups. The insurance is always the issue I guess, though he will be 23 by the time he takes his test (I took mine at 17 as I couldn't wait to drive smile ). Had the chance of buying a friend's BMW 116d for buttons, but the insurance is really high and probably more powerful than he really needs as a first car...

Has your son actually said he wants a Pig 207 or are you leading him that way purely as he is learning in a 208? The two cars aren't in anyway the same!

Does your son not have any interest in cars?

He has little interest in cars to be honest. It was more that he can fit in a 208, which he is learning in and likely in a 207 as well (subject to us actually finding one!).

Having said that he has tried a Fiesta and Corsa last weekend, just to sit in, which proved my point that as tall as he is the seat will go back far enough in most cars for him to fit.

Given my interest in cars it's sad to say that he views them as white goods pretty much...
