My Peugeot 306 GTI-6
Discussion
Hi guys, I’m from Brisbane, Australia.
I own a 306 GTI-6 with only 60,000km / 37,000 miles, and it is one of the nicest cars I’ve ever driven.
I’d like to know a little more about the engineering team at Peugeot, and how they managed to tune the suspension and chassis so damn well? From what I’ve seen they remain relatively uncredited and not a lot of info available!
Hi mate, nice car.
I've owned two 306 Gti-6, two Rallyes, and two Hdi, amongst various hot 106, 206, etc.
They are fantastic cars, great handlers, although a bit lairy by modern standards with regards to lift off oversteer.
Can't tell you any of the specifics of why they got it right, for that you'd have to look back at least as far as the 205, since most of their hatches up until relatively recent years used the torsion bar set up at the rear which probably plays a bit part. It's one of the reasons I probably wont get another, they can be a pain to work on!
Hope you keep hold of it and enjoy driving the thing. Don't be afraid to put some miles on it, they don't rust much, and are pretty hardy. Just keep the services up, change that belt a bit ahead of time, and unless you stick starship mileage on it, it'll appreciate nicely for when you do decide to sell!
A quick couple of photos of my favourites I've owned. I miss them, had some good memories, but life is short and there are a lot of cars to drive!

Peugeot 306`s ( along with the 406 ) were the last of the real Peugeot`s. They were well built and reliable, a cracking car. The XU10J4 engine was probably one of the best engines Peugeot produced. Peugeot got plenty of experience "tuning" suspensions for rallying.
The 306 Maxi was as quick as the 4x4 turbo cars.
