So ive recently had some stuttering on acceleration in my rs275.

Car was booked into garage to investigate but in the meantime yesterday the engine light came on, went off quickly.

Then the engine failed today. Currently sat waiting for Rac

I was actually pulling away slowly, changed into second Then Bang! White smoke out the back, dashboard lit up

Oil spewing out

Managed to get to a lay by.

Car stopped smoking pretty quickly

Loads of oil pouring out.

Can I get thoughts on worst and best case scenarios.

It's really st but due to various life Stuff at the moment I have enough perspective to see that it's just an object and I'm lucky enough to be OK for spare cash but I'm keen to calibrate my expectations.

Con rod going through would be the worst right? And what would they mean in terms of sorting it? Full new engine etc?

Thanks

Being optimistic it could be a turbo and the oil is from the turbo oil feed. But I think it sounds like something more serious.
Any metal parts on the ground or loose in the engine bay?

Not sure where you are but I'd try to get it to AW motorworks for Alex to have a look at.

If it's a rod through the block I don't think much will be recoverable...

Are your belts intact? Sure I read previously that Ben Lowden changed his prematurely and they showed signs of wear from an oil leak if I can remember correctly.

Edited to add he mentioned it in a reply to a thread of yours:

Thanks all for the help

Where my head is at now....

If it needs a new engine....

What performance can I go for without spending too much more, if I'm spending on the labour of getting an engine out and in I'm thinking about going fully forged and hybrids etc...

Does sound like it st itself rather suddenly. You could be right. Not that I'm an expert.

I had the belts changed on my 275 just before Christmas. A bit earlier than required. Mechanic remarked that it was worn and it was a good call to get it changed.

He also set the timing wrong and fitted the wrong plugs, but that's another story!

How many miles on it?

Mines just under 40k. Needed a new flywheel at the service as well (was making a clacking noise and was on its way out). Its has seemed to have got through some parts in the time I've had it.

When you know what's wrong reach out to RUK they might be able to help a bit depends on if you have the full service history or not & no mods though. They might throw something in to help with the expected big bill they are enthusiasts as well!!

Fat chance of Renault helping on a 5yr old car I'd say.

Remap means they will not help probably but they will do the job for you just going to cost a lot. Not sure its worth it only you can know the answer to that not much change out of £15K even if you get KTR to do for you parts & labour are going to be big £££ they might be able to keep it down more than a main Renault dealer though.

Where are you based? There's a few independent specialists dotted around that could take it on.

Lol

Taking the piss

No idea about these cars but engines for "Megane RS" are around 2250 on Ebay - not sure on Engine code
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_t...

And I would IMAGINE a days labour to swap

Plus maybe a few hundred for belts / pumps / pulleys / plugs etc

If you go forged not much point just putting a standard engine in is there & 275 engines are not exactly commonplace they never made that many to begin with your best option is to get what you have repaired rather than a new engine. Most likely its only some of it that will need replacing not the entire engine. Anyway will PM you my RUK contacts now & wish you all the best. RUK will help not sure about with costs but with expertise & advice.

250-265-275 all slightly different engine types also not sure the clutch, flywheel & transmission just bolt together either! Some have LSD some don't. Labour will be way more than a day as well I reckon due to how cramped the engine bay is. You have to remove body panels & maybe some front suspension parts. Its not an easy job on the MK3 & finding someone you can trust to do the work & not mess it up is another factor. Probably better to buy all the tools you need & hire a mobile specialist to work with you but if it were me & I really wanted to keep the car I would go main dealer or back to Renault Sport themselves for a proper job.
