I think My Megane's turbo has packed up. As I was accelarating suddenly it whistled and there was no extra power. Now it drives just like the Turbo isnt working. No warning lights on the dashboard though. I checked the R-Link displays, and the one showing turbo boost remained at zero even at 4000RPM. Does this sound like the turbo has failed? If not what is it?

My garage cant take it for another week, but it seems okay to drive - gingerly, in the meantime.
I almost hate to ask, but if it is the turbo, what will it cost?
It's a 63 Reg, with 51k miles.

Most likely boost pipe cracked/failed

Unless yours is running a funny remap you don't tend to hear of turbos failing on the F4RT engine

Have you checked all the hose ends? Still connected to the intercooler?

Take the engine cover off.

Boost pipe is obvious (silver on the right hand side)

Trace it from your inlet back to the intercooler and out the other side (go under the car)

Last time I checked the complete turbo is not that much its only around £1.2K fitted @ KTR.

But its rare these ever break if it did it would usually make a very loud noise due to the ultra high RPM!

Would you believe, squirrels?! I live in the country and the air inlet well inside the engine bay was full of chestnuts. They'd also started tearing up the yellow sound-deadening sheet on the underside of the bonnet and filling gaps under the cover. Or maybe that was mice! Anyway, I should have looked myself instead of paying the garage to. I will in future!
