I'm divided on it. On the one hand, I love a quirky French car, I'm a bit of a fan of classic Citroen's; used to own a Traction, ran a Citroen DS5 for several years and an excellent car it was too. So a fresh, big French car from the DS brand.. should get me excited, however I just find it a little bland. It's like they've toned it down to appeal to Audi buyers, but Audi buyers buy an Audi for the badge and the potential DS owners will buy a DS for the avantgarde styling.. which it just doesn't have. As a result I don't expect to see many.
If I was looking for a car in that segment, I'd actually go straight to Peugeot and have one of their new 508's; a far more striking design if you ask me.

Has anyone read their website?

Didn't even know they had a DS9, just looked it up and very disappointed with the styling, I've been quite a big fan of the original DS line-up including the DS3 but they seem to have gone very downhill styling wise recently. If you had shown me the DS9 with no badges I would have put money on it being a facelifted Peugeot 508, not a fan at all.

The car it’s a “sister” of the chinese version of the 508 (so a 4dr instead of 5dr hatchback as the European 508) and it should have been launched in 2017-18, but the situation of PSA and its joint-ventures in China has been a little bit chaotic to say the least so it’s been released for 2022. You can see that it shares the front styling and the interior with the DS7 CB that it’s going to be updated this year and it looks “outdated” compared to the DS4 that has just been launched.
Regarding the driving experience, it’s still very french in character. There is some “floatiness” to the ride and although some harshness over bad surfaces still gets into the cabin (I would say this is an issue in the majority of the EMP2 platform vehicles) it’s quite confortable by today’s standards.

Same here. I owned a DS5 previously and thought seriously about buying a DS9. But I had a poke around and it was just not interesting enough. It's beautifully made but it feels like a well executed Audi A6. And I expect most people will just buy the A6.I think the forthcoming Citroen C5X is actually more like it.
Having said that, I wish DS well. With the DS4 they are starting to get funkier, and the world needs that.

The C5X will combine adaptive dampers+hydraulic “bumpstops” in rebound and compression with the comfort seats so it should provide some of the classic Citroën driving feel.
And the C5X shape is actually cool - a sort of mashup of estate, hatchback, SUV and coupe which reminds me of the DS5.
Citroen said that the feedback from focus groups was that people had no idea how to describe it, which they considered a compliment
It's good to see Citroen getting its mojo back. But they really need to make DS more avant-garde and quirky. IMHO they should pick up where the Renault Vel Satis and Avantime left off. They are going to sell in tiny numbers anyway, so why not do something interesting?

I agree it’s most likely that sales will be low here but I believe the target market for volume is China, so will probably designed with that in mind. I believe it is made there too. The interior in red looks awesome
Yep. DS9 is made in China for all markets including the UK. China loves big saloons (you can even get things like a LWB Audi A6).When I spoke to the dealer they said that PSA fully knows that DS9 sales in the UK will be tiny, but they want to use it as a halo model to help build up market share with other models.
C5X is also made in China for all markets - but it's clearly aimed more at Europe.
I just hope that as DS get more established they get braver with the designs.
Big fan of DS and I own a DS7 which is by far the best family wagon we have owned , after a decade of JLR stuff. It is supremely comfortable with the best seats I have ever experienced in a car. The new 9 and 4 look excellent and I am tempted to get one of them and cash in on the current very strong residuals on my Alpine.
The DS brand looks perfect for an electric future. Their cars arent drivers cars really but cars with beautiful and original interiors, great ride comfort and a sense of style.
