Morning all,

Got my eye on a 58 plate Laguna estate GT with the 2L 180bhp DCI engine in.

Not a huge amount of info out there on these so wondered if anyone had any buying advice/things to look out for etc.

TIA

Johnston

Hi,

I've had a Monaco GP coupe 180 for 5 years now. Engines are very good. No timing chain issues that I'm aware of, overall reliability very good. Some small issues seem to keep cropping up on cars like dpf to dpf pressure sensor pipe - changed mine for upgraded pipe for £40 (dpf itself rarely gives any probs), door check straps and small things like that. It's not a particularly economical engine (I get 38-54mpg depending on type of driving). Smooth and quiet at speed and quick enough. I've heard of plenty of these engines with 200k+ miles. As with any car, check for history and that the car hasn't been abused but these Laguna's were built at a time when the then boss Carlos Ghosn wanted to right the wrongs of the Laguna II. Most owners love these and wouldn't swop them for newer diesels which are a pain in the ass.

I've still got a mk3 ph2 2.0dci GT.

Has been a brilliant buy. No major issues in 7 years and 130k miles. Quiet and comfy. Very practical being an estate. I think I only get about 43mpg.

Some rattles here and there.

Had some suspension bits replaced over the years. Cheap as chips motoring so don't know what would replace it with.

Frustratingly difficult to come by though. Current one up for sale in eBay is perfect but the seller is useless! Will keep looking.

Great cars.

Electric handbrake modules are prone to failing.

They can leak from the timing chain cover.

I do know someone who will have a Malta blue one for sale soon. I sold it to him!
