1.4 HDI vs 1.6HDI
Discussion
The 1.4 HDi is ok, its only 68bhp though so its a little gutless, the 1.6 is 90bhp (unless you get one of the higher spec 208's where you can see it upto 112bhp).
Both engines have issues that are usually easily rectified, the one that isn't is the fact that the oil galleries are very small, this means any missed service intervals or over mileage will start to cause you problems due to clogging up of these oil galleries, that in turn will just cause you a really bad headache as if maintained properly, the 1.6's will easily see 250k+ miles.
Issues they suffer with, injectors, if they do short trips it can cause a build up of carbon around the injectors, this is usually fatal to that injector and they are a few hundred quid each to replace.
Turbo's, again, oil is the issue here, poor servicing and forget it, the 1.6 is 12.5k off the top of my head, may be the same for the 1.4, I would change the oil every 6-10k depending on your driving type, if its over the 12.5k service interval then forget it and go look at another, they are that sensitive to not having their oil replaced on time.
The cars themselves are pretty reliable, no major issues with them, just look for all the usual signs of neglect/wear and tear.
