Does anybody know how the OBC calculates fuel consumption, is it from the speedo/mileage covered?

My fuel consumption has increased dramatically & my speedo drive is dicky, speedo occasionally stops working then starts working again (yes, I'm getting it sorted).

Could it be that simple or have I got another issue causing excess fuel consumption? And no, I don't want to brim the tank & work it out as the mileage isn't 100% accurate until the speedo drive is fixed! Thankfully I only do about 1500mls PA in this car so no real harm short term.

Yeah, MPG will be calculated using an input from the speedo. Obviously increasing MPG could be a fault with anything, but the speedo data needs to be robust.

I swapped my speed sensor (on the diff housing) because it started to behave erratically. Literally a five minute job. Easy.
