Changed fuel filter and primed system and it all started and it will run and run for miles - but finding now that when it stands for an hour and i go to restart it, it wont restart unless i prime it again
Have seen threads about checking to see if air getting into system but also noticed the bottom breather pipe from the fuel filter is not connected to anything - is this right

The "breather" pipe as you call it must be the filter drain pipe. That filter housing is dragging air in somewhere, so you must go back through the change procedure, checking all connections and seals.

The drain pipe - apologies for incorrect terminology - does not connect to anything then? So that won't be the culprit of letting air in. Maybe i've ruptured the top fuel pipe when trying to remove - 'i'll investigate further
