Frau is interested in one but buggered if I can find one she likes. There was a bright yellow one on eBay that went fairly quickly and one on HJ that has either been sold or otherwise as no response from the seller. Is there a mystery repository somewhere that has these for sale or is it just simply a numbers game? Have no interest in paying daft money, maybe up to 6-7k tops.

There are some for sale here : https://retrospecparts.com/114-cars-for-sale
and a few pages full here - https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/cat/3/15/2cv6/

Don't believe any advert that says 'rust free' . . .

If you have Facebook, there is a 2CV parts for sale page which often has whole cars
Again on Facebook, 2CV and friends page which often has cars for sale.

I'd be inclined to join the owner's club as a source of well looked after, "known quantity" vehicles, and a wealth of knowledge and access to spare parts.

The thought did cross my mind and whilst it’s ‘only’ £34 to join I’m a bit dubious. I’ve often found that enthusiasts have a tendency to overrate their cars and price them stupidly.

Fair one. I haven’t completely written off the idea so may well do at some point, cheers.

Thanks, will take a look. I actually emailed three on car and classic and no response, I wish people would take the ads off if they’ve been sold (assuming that’s the reason for radio silence).

Here in France 2cvs are now very expensive for what it is.
During 80's or 90's we scraped them. Many have been abandonned in backyards and we had them for free by juste asking the owner.

Now that's over.

A good cheaper alternative of the 2cv is the Dyane. It's better technicaly (better dashboard, better heater) and it's still a convertible unlike other 2cv's by-products (ami 6/8).

Avoid the 435cc engine, it's too small, no torque at all, high reving and so not reliable. You need to push it very hard to juste make the car move, and that makes the fuel consumption higher than the 602cc, so it's not even more economical.

Try the first link (retrospec), they may well be more current. I'll also echo the other comment of joining 2CVGB, linked to it are a network of local groups around the country, with plenty of knowledgeable people who might be able to help you out

Could Frau be tempted by a Renault 4 GTL as an alternative?
