Advice Please, I'm thinking about a toy and its coming down to either a 182 Trophy or 200 RS Cup. I have also been thinking about Cooper S, but one of the fav cars I have had was a Willy 1 so I'm being pulled back to Clio land.

Thoughts ....

I had a 197cup and 200 with cup pack. Both from new. both for 4 years each.
200 cup was fine apart from the ride. Super hard and never settled.
197 cup ride was perfect.
Make sure you test drive the 200cup.

I am surprised no-one else has chipped in - so here's my two penn'orth. I think most would argue that the 182 Trophy is the better driver's car - certainly the best hot hatch I have driven, and possibly the best hot hatch ever. BUT, they are now 15 years old and the trick dampers which make them so good need expensive rebuilds from time to time. Because of their iconic status good ones are very expensive - if you can find one. So, a 200 is probably the more"sensible" choice.

I currently own a 200 full fat version as a daily. It has a firm ride for sure but it’s cornering ability is immense. At the same time it is adjustable with nice amount of feedback.
I haven’t owned a trophy but did have the 182 ff and the fun came to you sooner. I’d imagine the trophy will feel the closest to the Williams. Personal preference really but I prefer the 200 mainly because the driving position for me is better, I prefer the engine sound, closer gear ratios and the chunky touring car feel of the 200.
On a side note the MCS are also a good laugh. I drove my friends R53 which had a few mods and for the money it’s not bad choice and this is coming from someone who used to own r56 gp2.
For me though the Clios feel more ‘special’ with pure motorsport heritage. Have a drive of all and see what you think. Opening up the garage to see a trophy or a bright coloured 200 cup will put a smile on your face

I’ve got both. If I had to keep one it would be the 200. The difference between them is negligible in real world handling but from a cabin and daily use perspective the 200 is leaps in front. The Trophy when sat in it feels like most other 20yr old Clios, nothing special, seating position is too high. By comparison if you get the 200 with recaros it feels just better, more comfortable.
You’ve half a chance of picking up a good low mileage 200, less so with the Trophy.......unless you buy mine :-)
