Hi there.

Me and the blokes from work have been tinkering with a 1994 306 1.8 in the attempt of turning it into a budget track car. The sub $1,000 race car scene in Australia is doing really well.

We have taken the engine out a couple of times for various reasons but the last time it's all gone back together we cannot fire it and close to scrapping the whole idea.

I will apologies for my half knowledge as the other bloke is the main spanner.

We look to be getting fuel but no or very poor spark.
We first thought maybe coilpack, crank sensor, ECU or a relay.

The other guy immediately pointed the finger at me for blowing the ECU as I stupidly left the ignition on when installing the battery. Our local auto elec said that would be horribly unlucky however. No one locally can test it however.

We have since tried a new coilpack, crank sensor and also leads with no success. Finding an ECU swap will likely make me just want to throw the car away due to cost.

Any suggestions to try? I think he attempted some diagnostics with a led light with no success.

Thanks and let me know if I can send through further info.

To be honest there could be 101reasons why it won't start, especially as it's been in bits a couple of times. All you can do is go back checking all the engine wiring loom multi plugs, various earths, stuff you have disconnected or knocked pulling it apart.

All I can suggest is a few "306" things I can remember.
I take it the car was a runner before you started pulling it to bits. Has it still got its original key and ignition switch and nothing has been messed with there. I'm thinking the chip in the key, transponder around the ignition switch. Has it got a small square button on the steering column cowling? If so hold it in and switch on the ignition, the 4ways will flicker.. That will kill the built in alarm/emobilizer. Have a look in the engine bay for a small unit with a red square rubber button and press it. That's the switch that kills the engine in a crash.Sometimes it activates when major work is going on.

A belated thanks for the reply.

Just to follow up. After finally getting it towed to the auto electrician. He found a connection we (my mate) had missed putting back on the starter motor... car fail frown
