I have a 2016 Peugeot 208 1.6hdi.
Currently having problems with the smart alternator charging the battery. Firstly I thought it was a duff battery so went and had it changed only a week later the car wouldn't start.
Turns out its a fault with the alternator.
My local garage ordered an after market alternator, installed it but again it wouldn't charge the battery. However strangely if the smart lead is pulled out of the alternator it charges fine but plug it in it doesn't charge again.
The garage is saying that it's because the alternator isn't a manufacturers part and that it may need one from Peugeot which I don't really want to do as I haven't got the dosh to spend out that amount at the moment. Reading on a few other forums people have bought the part from Peugeot but with no luck and 500 quid worse off hence why I don't want to run the risk.
My original alternator has been sent off for the smart charger part to be repaired by an auto electrician. It's not come back yet but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and if anyone is able to help in anyway at all.
I literally struggling to work out what to do next.
Many thanks.

I'm having similar issue with 2014 Peugeot 308 1.6 Diesel.
Keep getting warnings and diagnostic points to alternator issues (battery been changed).
Been reading around and see many people saying that changing alternator didn't solve the problem. And it's Smart Charging System that's playing. (now I've been advised to change the alternator)
So wanted to ask have you sorted your issue? And what was the issue?
