Megane III Sidelights

I have a 2014 Megane III GT-Line. When I turn on my sidelights, only the DRLs come on. The car is fitted with w5w sidelight bulbs in the headlamp units but they do not illuminate. Is this normal? I was expecting both to come on. What are the implication for its MOT when it comes around?
