Hi, can anyone tell me if replacing the stereo unit for a DAB unit is straight forward, or failing that, something that is more up to date. As it stands, the reception is very poor, so i'm stuck with Smooth radio on MW !!

Cheers

For any car to be converted for DAB, you'll need a new aerial. This will have to be either retrofitted to the inside of the windscreen (these have mixed reviews) or one with an external aerial which tend to get better reception but is more challenging to fit as it will involve removing trim and potentually the headlining.

You'll lost the steering wheel functionality most likely too.

The radios in 1*2s tend to be OK so maybe you need to look at that first, as it suggests that yours may have an issue with the aerial. If you're convinced you need DAB, there are alsp cheapo adapters you can buy but you'll need to fix the aerial issue first.

I prefer the oem look for the stereo so i got around the reception and lack of mp3 issues with one of these....

I've tuned it into an empty radio channel and i connect Spotify from my phone via Bluetooth. If you don't have spotify, obviously any other media app works with it plus you can use it for your navigation maps on your phone, receive calls etc.

My dads got a single DIN one that he swaps over every time he gets a new car, it has a stick on aerial which is thinner than a piece of string. Obviously that requires to be hidden away through the dash trim etc, unless you don't mind it looking messy!

In response to the other comment, 182's don't have stereo controls on the steering wheel.... only cruise control buttons.

Apologies, you're right. I meant the twiddly thing on the steering column
