Thread resurrection. It's a problem and I suspect I'm about to become it's latest victim. Whoever thought designing an engine with a belt in oil was a good idea needs shooting. PSA are aware of it although whether you get any goodwill depends on the dealer. The fact that they are currently redesigning this engine to use a cam chain says it all.
When I first heard about a cambelt running in oil, I thought someone was pulling my....... chain.

Yep, that thread sums it up. Practically all PSA group cars offer this engine in their model ranges. Quite a few on the 308 Facebook group failing as well. My car had problems with intermittent EML lights with "engine fault have vehicle repaired" on two occasions. Both times it was vvt solenoids clogged.
Had the last one done a couple of weeks back but at this point I had lost all confidence in the car. I'm pretty sure the reason is down to debris from the belt. The potential of a £5k bill to replace the engine convinced me to trade it in for something Japanese with a camchain.

PSA have issued a recall on over half a million puretech engines manufactured between 2013 and 2017. Peugeot, Citroën and DS models worldwide are affected by the recall due to the possible damage to the vacuum pump and brake booster failure caused by disintegration of the cambelt. Looks like a safety issue had finally forced their hand.
I've got mine booked in for April. Earliest they could give me!
I'm hoping they'll change it. I read they just measure the belt (somehow) and that will be used to determine whether they swap the belt over.
One chap on the Peugeot forums said that he spends most of his days replacing belts as its a huge issue. Loss of oil pressure (due to belt disintegrating and blocking oil filter) causing car into limp mode probably saves the engine.
Guy at our local dealer suggests its a small number in comparison of the "millions of engines out there... "
When we bought the Mrs her C4 Grand Picasso I'd factored in £400 to pay for a belt change before 50k miles.
Would love for it to be changed under the recall
