Evening All,

My names Will. Long time lurker, first time poster...

My partners Mk3 Clio (1.2TCE 62plate) has decided its had enough of starting. This was after a significant electrical storm last night, however my ST was parked half a metre away and started as normal this morning so not sure if thats relevant.

Anyway, apparently the symptoms are:
- Central locking not working.
- Ignition stage one works, radio, satnav all load / turn on fine. fans turn on etc.
- ignition stage two results in dash lights flickering and an audible clicking form beside the battery.

When you try the central locking you can hear the motors doing something in the doors and also a relay of some kind clicking. Immobiliser light flashes when you press lock and stops when you press unlock - so I thought that it was possibly low on juice.
Attempted a jump start to no avail and then tested the battery which gave 12.11volts

Could this be an issue with battery Amp output? or is it likely just a fuse? Everything seems to make the correct nice when you ask the car to do it (locks, starting, etc) but it seems it doesnt have enough power to make it happen - if that makes any sense at all!?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Fuses are pretty easy to check. Do that and report back.

Hi Gil,

Thanks for the response.
Checked every fuse I coudl find and all read fine.

Managed at one point to get it to act normally (central locking worked, dash lit up properly and when to turn the engine over and the starter clunked.
however the second time I tried this there was a clicking from by the glove box, but nothing else.

Can we assume you have tried jump starting it/charging the battery?

12.6 is fully charged, 12.4 is half discharged, 12.1 is dead.

Either jump it or swap the battery from the other car, start it and measure alternator output. You either need a new battery, or a new battery AND alternator.

Thanks all for the responses.
Turned out to be a dell cell in the battery.
Voltage good but amps low.
