I'm looking for a replacement vehicle for my Mum - she currently has a 4-year old Peugeot 3008, but this is becoming increasingly unreliably, and she's incurred a considerable expensive getting it through the MOT etc.

She likes this style/type of car - something not too big, but with an elevated driving position and enough room for a medium-size dog in the boot.

Most of her journeys are less than 5 miles, with the occasional long trip of 200 miles, so I'm wondering if an electric car might be the way forward, given many now have 250-300 mile range?

Thanks in anticipation.

I can't answer on the last point definitively, but if she wants new and reliable with a hybrid option - then the CR-V might be a good shout.

We have a 14-plate 2.2 diesel and whilst it is no Lotus, it is very reliable, superbly equipped in EX trim, and very practical. A nearly new 1.6d version might also be worth a look as they drive significantly better than the older 2.2, and indeed the 3008 (we had one for 4 years and it needed for nothing other than a wheel-bearing and consumables).

Thanks, I’m not sure on the benefits of the hybrid option, but worth a look, thanks.

Does she want new? If so she can lease a Vauxhall Grandland X for around £2500 a year. Its basically a new shape 3008 under the skin. Probably less than depreciation on discounted price.
