Seriously thinking about one of these to “Waft” along in. I now have a longer commute (20 odd miles of mainly urban, traffic light infested, pothole hell) that’s quite stop start and a hyperactive, bone hard Abarth is getting a bit wearing.

Wife has a Vw Arteon and it’s a lovely thing, so I’m looking for that experience on a budget. Big comfy seats, auto box, cushioned ride and a decent stereo. Diesel rather than petrol to keep the fuel bill palatable. A GT spec coupe seems to fit the bill, but before I take the plunge is there anything in particular I should be wary of in regards to purchase and running one?

If you're wanting to replicate a big wafty 4 door car on a budget, why not go for the Citreon C6 V6 diesel? Get one with hydropnuematic suspension and it'll waft better than any modern car.

Hmm interesting suggestion that I had considered but discounted. Think it boils down to budget. I did have a brief look at c6’s but they seem to be a) thinner on the ground and b) appreciating in value, whilst 407 coupe is much cheaper to buy and more choice about, especially with a dark, leather interior. Like for like (age and mileage) I could buy a 407 coupe 1000/1500 cheaper, which in essence funds the running costs all year. Also no real need for 4 doors. Only be me in it the majority of the time. I think the man maths sways me to the Peugeot!

Like a lot of other larger engined cars of the era the pre '06 plates are cheaper on VED.

Tyres are expensive if on 19's. Quite nice places to be. Haven't driven one properly for about 12 or 13 years though. Always seemed better put together than the standard 407.
