09 Megane 1.5dci turbo inter cooler pipe doesn’t fit?!

Any ideas please?
I have changed my turbo on Megane and what I believe is the intercooler pipe (maybe called the turbo air intake - has a bendable hose clipped to a metal pipe which is the part that slots on to the top hole in the turbo) no longer fits.
I am trying to work out if the new turbo (which has the correct engine / turbo codes and is confirmed as a fit) is the issue or if there is some magic way I should have fitted this that I am unaware of!!
The issue, more specifically, is that where the metal pipe used to have the room to fit all the way over the top of the previous broken turbo, it no longer has. It’s as if the angle is different so the metal pipe just won’t bend to fit. Everything else fits back together as it should no issues whatsoever ... any advice welcome please?
