Shake rattle n roll

Hi I have a 2011 C5 tvi estate. When I brake there is a murder through the steering column!
Any ideas? I been told it could be any of the following?
Worn discs. Warped discs. Need new dicss and pads. Wheel alignment an balancing. Just need to eliminate some to reduce repair costs?

It's usually disks. New disks and pads will sort it out.
