Asr/Esp light on at full lock after fitting steering rack?
Discussion
Odd one this (well it's an odd car!), i've just fitted a steering rack to my mk2 phase 1 Megane 225.
When i'm parking and i've got the steering at full lock to the right(doesn't happen full left lock) , the ASR/ESP/ABS warning light comes up on the dash?
This never happens at any other time while driving. Don't know if it's a psychological thing, or a feeling i get but at the end of the right full lock i get an awkward feeling through the steering wheel through my hands, like the steering doesn't want to go that far, or it's stretching something?
Only way i can describe it? If you switch car off, back on again it clears. RAC guy ran the car through his Renault clip for codes and it came up temporary right abs sensor fault.
Would that when the sensor/connections are knackered or it's just storing the fault code from whenever it happens? Thanks.

I read somewhere about when sitting stationary, turn steering fully right, hold it there for a few seconds, then fully left for a few seconds, then central for a little while, that didn't work.
Do you think this can be set by software, or is it a steering wheel off job? I've read there's a little sight glass thingy you see when you take the steering wheel off?

Apologies, I'm not familiar with the set up.or calibration procedure on Renault.
After fitting the rack have you had the tracking set up by adjusting both track rods so that the steering wheel is in the centre position when going straight ahead? It sounds as if the steering angle sensor is going out of range in one direction which kind of implies to me that it's not symmetrical.

Haven't had teacking done professionally yet. What i did do is made sure steering wheel didn't move while rack was getting changed, then before attaching pinion shaft on rack to steering column u-joint i measured from a central point on the car to each end of the rack ends before putting track rod ends on, 'then' i attached rack to column and done tracking myself, steering is dead straight while driving.
I will get it done professionally though to rule that out! Thanks for the replies.

So, turns out airbag squib is knackered too! Oh joy, so had that fitted. I took the car to get the tracking done and they run out of thread on one track rod end. This obviously made me think steering rack was off slightly from a central position(god knows how, i was meticulous about this).
Yet again last night i centralised the steering rack and the steering wheel is at the straight ahead position, 'looks' good, but does anyone know if the steering wheel has to be at a certain position before you connect the rack to the column(apart from being straight ahead) ?
I'm sure this clockspring thing in my new squib/stalks unit is on correctly(fitted professionally) but does the whole steering wheel have to be in a certain position, apart from just being straight? I can feel a slight resistance at full lock in one direction? Like this clockspring is starting to be under strain, but whats causing this??
I've been avoiding full lock in between visits to garages in the meantime.
