So the £500 clios failed its mot with emissions fast idle.

Any suggestions what to try ?

Garage doesn't think it's anything to do with the cylinder 1 misfire or induction kit .

On my ex's old Clio shed the same happened. It was a dodgy lambda (O2) sensor, and poisoned catalyst. Ouch.

Not throwing a code for 02 sensor.

Codes for a misfire, so new plugs and leads tomorrow and see if that does the trick , if it's the cat not sure what my next move is.

Almost there smile

Have replaced injectors, cat , both o2 sensors , plugs , coils and leads and it's only just scraped thru the emissions test !

Just needs a headlight washer fitted in the morning then it's finally mot'd.

The headlight washer shouldn't be necessary for MOT. Mine doesn't work and the car passed the last 3 MOTs without even a mention of it.

New mot now though , if it's come from the factory with washers they have to work .

According to the official MOT testers manual that's incorrect...

4.1.6 Headlamp cleaning devices
You must inspect vehicles first used on or after 1 September 2009 equipped with headlamp washers.

You can identify HID headlamps from:

‘DCR’ mark on the headlamp lens or body
an igniter module or inverter behind the headlamp
taking a few seconds to reach full intensity
a bluish tinge to the light
HID headlamps use high voltage. You should take care when inspecting these headlamps.

Just to conclude the story , i tool the clio for a compression/leak down test and the news was not good .

1-9.5 bar
2-8 bar
3-6 bar
4-5 bar

so looks like a head gasket leak between cylinder 3 and 4 .

i think i'll probably sell it now as spares/repairs as even if i got a decent used engine i'd still have to do the cambelt/dephaser and water pump and my trusty puma is still working so i'm not without wheels.
