Here,s one for my ds3 driver,s out there, mine started to miss fire out of the blue, went to my dealer only to find it needs an engine, psa did not want to know at first then came back with 25%, then spoke to c/s and proved service history took me up to 50%.
All this on a engine known to go wrong, the facts are its only done 20k, its my 2nd ds3r and my 5th ds, no more for me ever since citroen fell into bed with psa the service is crap.

Citroen have been part of PSA since before the DS3 was even a concept. Can't deny their decline but Citroen were part of it when Peugeot still made good cars.

I had the same issue with my 2007 Peugeot 207 GT back in 2008 (Same 1.6 THP Engine). I went back and forth the Peugeot dealer a number of times due to power loss issues and their answer was to update the software. I ended up going to another dealer who replaced the engine under warranty due to total loss of compression. From research I found that a number of people with the same engine had very similar issues. The engine is also found in the Mini Cooper S, Peugeot RCZ, amongst other Peugeot and Citroen offerings. Its been a well known issue for 10 years now, I would have thought it should have been sorted by now.

As cracking cars as these DS3Rs are, the PSA / BMW Prince lump under the bonnet is such a letdown and the only reason why I have been avoiding them.

Has the dealer explained why a new engine is needed? I would have thought that a simple misfiring would require a few parts to be changed (coils, plugs, MAF sensors etc.). Even the dreaded chain can be fixed with a new tensioner. Seems a bit odd.

Yes the whole thing is a little bit funny, not ha ha funny but odd, its the second racing I have brought, the first was from new, this one is second hand, they tell me it needs a new engine because it has a hole in piston no 3.
It would be a little more concerning where it not for the fact that I sub contract to the said dealer carrying out all the valeting and smart repair work, the service manager did,nt seem to caring and gave me the service customer number with the guy,s name dealing with it.
When I rang he said what was I doing ringing him......I could tell this was going to a battle, so now I have a very pretty 10 grand paper weight lol.

If its just a hole in piston number 3 then why not just replace the piston?
After that they can find out the route cause of why the piston became holed, replace the spark plugs and coil packs to make sure they were not to blame, clean the oil system out and get your car back on the road.
A 6k engine is a little extreme for a hole in a piston (which may happen again if they don't figure out why its holed).
