My first thread! woohoo

I'm Martin and I HAIL from Perth in Scotland.

So I bought this thing called a 106 Rallye sometime around 2014. At the time this was my 3rd 106 purchase, I still owned a 106 1.5D (which I bought in 2009) and I had just sold my 106 GTi. So as you can imagine I've become quite familiar with 106's by this point and ALL of their common faults. The Rallye models - Both S1 and S2 - have always taken my fancy so when this one popped up cheap I had to go and see it.

So this is how I found it in April 2014 in a fairly remote small town of Keith. A93 to get there and A9 coming back down. no way was I risking a trailer going over the hills in the dark.

And in September I found it going onto my trailer rolleyes

The sad story is, it's been sitting in my unit ever since until a few months ago. I completed the remaining small bits of welding. I've done more work in the last 3 days (Yes I was on it at 10pm on xmas eve and on christmas day from 5pm!) than I have since I brought it down.

Fitting the dashboard was a total pig, on S1 models you need to fit the heater matrix and the dash loom all at the same time. I think I had it on and off 5 times before finally fixing it in position.

Finished the tailgate loom and the trim. re-fitted the rear bumper and lights - which are now also connected to the completed interior loom.

And a wee engine bay shot of what I've got fitted so far.

The ONLY thing I'm not keeping original on the rebuild is the bottom end. I've got a recently rebuilt 1.6 Rallye engine that's complete so I'll be installing that. I'll be keeping the 1.3 engine though for a proper strip down and rebuild as a separate side project for 2018 when funds allow.

I'm hoping it's literally going to be a case of a simple re-assembly... HAHAHAHAHA

Any advice/comments/questions/motivation welcome smile

Haha! I originally come from that area of the north east where you bought it.

Good luck with the build.

Braw min! Everything seems to be running smoothly... so far.

Excellent roads to drive a wee car fast on - except the A96, nobody likes the A96.

I have managed to only get the head lining in today, the glue was taking a lot longer than usual to go tacky - I guess due to it being so cold. Cracked out the tiger seal as well as a substitute for some clips which are impossible to get now.

Tomorrow I hope to get the under carpet insulation in, gear linkage and handbrake cable fitted.
