Renault Scenic II cannot open the doors..............

Scenic 2005..

1 key....

Key fob needed repairing as it sometimes started the car and sometimes took 4 or 5 goes. Went to a repair centre (well known), they repaired the keyfob, 55 mile round trip back...

Try it on the car and nothing. Cannot open the car.

Pulled the emergency key out of the fob to put in the passenger door (only lock on the car) to find it had previously been drilled out!.

Tried changing the battery on the fob - No joy.

Called my recovery out, they tried to get in the broken lock - no joy.

Tried changing the battery on the fob - No joy

Tried prising the door open with a airbag to put in some metal rods to open the door handle - No joy.

Mechanic reckons battery has died and car is deadlocked.

So my question is.................

How on earth do i open the car up without smashing the windows?.

Is there a lock on the boot you can use the emergency key? as you said there is normally only 1 which is on the drivers door, but worth a check.
If not I would call an actual locksmith to get you inside as they can open ANYTHING!
However depending on the cost, way up if it is cost effective to smash a window to then replace rather than a locksmith.

But if it is deadlocked then you may be stuck, plus your alarm is going to go off whichever way do go. Just pop bonnet and remove battery

I had a similar issue with my Clio previously. I was lucky as the central locking on one of the doors was broken and I could get in the car, open the bonnet (while the alarm was going off) and disconnect the battery. I then refurbished the fob and it's been working like a charm ever since.

I advise you to get the fob looked at one more time, the circuits get old so even if your original issue was sorted out a new one might have appeared. Should be cheaper than either a locksmith or breaking windows.

Try jacking up and see if you can put 12v to the starter motor connectors. Old trick but as that is linked directly to battery 12v its the easiest way.

So yesterday i jacked the car up and connected my multimeter to the alternator. It was showing 12.48v, so it definitely wasn't a battery issue.

The only option left was to smash the window, first i managed to source one for £20 delivered. Then i proceeded to smash the said window.

The alarm went off and i climbed in, i put the fob into the car and started it and it started fine. I then tried the remote unlocking buttons and it started working fine.

So.. it seems after the fob was repaired it needed to be synced again with the car by starting the car first.

I hope nobody is unlucky enough to encounter this problem like me ie.. having 1 key.. it stopped working..the emergency key barrel in the passenger door being faulty/missing/damaged.

In my case the key fob was working fine for the unlocking of the doors prior to the repair. It only wasn't starting the car first time every time.

So if you are in the same situation as me, KEEP YOUR CAR UNLOCKED UNTIL THE FOB IS REPAIRED.
