Remarkably this is shown on the DVLA site as still taxed and MOT'd.

I was the first owner (My first brand new car), so I'm happy to see it's still around.

I don't suppose anyone here owns it and/or has a recent photo?

I found this 2008 shot via Google, when it was for sale on the Wirral!

A bit pimped up from my time! smile

Still it was 20 years old then and 9 years later is still going, which is great news!

Hope your little one is doing OK.

Air filter isn't original and not sure about the intercooler pipe over the top, but it's 30 years old, so hardly surprising a few replacements have been made along the way.

Sadly, I'm right down in Hampshire. It was registered here, in Aldershot, in January 1988 (As I recall). I had it for 3 years when it was traded against a Calibra 16V at a Vauxhall dealers in Poole, Dorset. It had, from memory, about 30,000 miles on the clock at the time, so I'd be a bit dubious about a total of 85K being accurate, but who knows?

Only issues I had were a leaky sunroof (they weren't factory fit, but were a dealer fit option from new) and a broken clutch cable (may have been two, actually), which was a common issue.

Went to Le Mans in it 2 or 3 times and to Spa at least once (it didn't like Belgian Pave cobbles or the joints on the Belgian motorways much! Suspension was very firm!)

Lovely to see it's still around and clearly had a fair bit of attention given to it in recent years.

Please post more photos when you get some time! smile

Meanwhile, here are a few from when I owned it

Great story I tried to find my old tungsten grey 5
But alas I think it’s dead. F247HVS
though I do regularly check to see if it makes a comeback it would be a dream to get it back after 25 years

The one above looks like it's running a "Green" cone air filter (quite popular back in the late '90's / early '00s - i had one on my old GTT as well) and it's been relocated towards the front of the bay for cooling so away from the turbo / downpipe where the cone would have sat if not using the o.e airbox setup.

Looks like it's had some form of aftermarket but discrete intercooler fitted based on the pipework. The o.e cooler used to be behind the grille / bumper next the passenger side headlight but one of the many mods back in the day used to involve either a big front mount intercooler (with the bumper cut out / aftermarket front bumper) or a smaller / bigger core intercooler relocated more centrally than where it was as standard - looks like what's happened based on the pics above.

The chrome carb elbow looks like it's a modified version of the ones GT Tuning / K-Tec used to sell but with the various pipe outlets for boost, etc, deleted.

Looks like a nice example tbh smile Someone has obviously spent some £££ in returning it to standard looks (from the typical '90's mods that most of us did back then hehe )

As a poster above, i used to have one in the late '90's through the middle '00's - started out standard, tidied up the bodywork with a K-Tec rear bumper / GT Tuning front bumper with front mount intercooler, flushed tailgate but no silly rear spoilers and then spent far too much on the engine looking for big BHP which inevitably ended in a number of problems (i was young hehe ). Very much a fun car (when it worked hehe ) but it was the car that got me into modifying, etc, but i eventually sold it circa '05 as a rolling shell minus an engine. The good part is that the guy that bought it from me, dropped in a new engine, tidied the car up and he still has it today smile

Great story - such a coincidence of reunited owners! MOT history suggests it was at 100k miles 10 years ago, then drops down to 85k and not really changed since. Looks like someone has spent a bit of time returning it to standard though!

I have also owned this car. I swapped it for a mk1 MX5 with a lad in Wallasey.

It was in a bit of a state and broke down on the way home caused by the wrong battery hitting the bonnet and shorting out and burning the loom out.

In the time i had it all the bodywork was done including a new non sunroof roof as the old one was rotten and it had a new bottom end and turbo.

I sold it to a lad in Scarborough iirc and he fitted a standard interior.
