Evening chaps. I have a long term dream to own a R26.r

Currently prices seem to range from 17-20k ish. Can anybody advise me which way these have moved over the past year or so? Interested to know if they have stayed static or have been creeping up or down.

Have the latest batch of 300bhp + uber hatches started to dent the R26.R valves?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi

I don't think the more powerful hatches will make any difference to the prices

The car was never about it's power, even in 2009 it wasn't spectacularly powerful

Look at Clio V6 prices, R5 T2 prices, just like those it's about rarity but also the fact that the R26R was and still is FANTASTIC to drive, how many write ups of the Trophy R said it was MILES better than the dated R26R? None, the R26R was still referred to as something that is still relevant!

I think the other thing to bear in mind is that in 2009 you could buy one with 1,000 miles for £18.5k, if the values havn't changed after that long and let's say 25k miles later I can't see why they suddenly will!

To mainain value will need originality and keeping mileage reasonable

How many cars do you think we are going to get in the future that come with carbon seats and a roll cage from the factory for under £150k?

NONE!

Just my opinion but I don't see these heading in the same direction value wise as the Clio V6 or R5 Turbos. They're too much like the normal R26. I think they'll stay fairly static as they have done since new.

I agree that there probably won't be a jump like the other 2, I just can't see a fall after this long!

Many thanks for the replies, very interesting to hear that prices have basically been static for a while. I am going to keep a close eye on the market this year and see how things progress and really do my homework.

Hi

They would have depreciate heavily by now if they were going to, can't see them being stable for 8 years then taking a dive

Mileage WILL change that though, buy a mint car with 15k miles then do 12k miles a year, leave it outside, use it as a daily etc and it won't stay the same price

A mint one might be a bit of a liability in the real world

morning. I dont think prices have stayed static. Essentially lets say 2 years / 18 months ago you could get a good spec car for £17-18k. Now I'd say its £20k+

they may be flat vs original asking price but they have been going up. there are very few around and a number have been exported from UK recently

prices are also VERY spec dependent. As a keeper , you need Ti Exhaust, cage etc. not all cars have those

the R26.R has all the features that have made other similar cars go up over time. I'm thinking M3 CSL, 968CS, Clio V6, even low miles Focus RS are pricey now

1. great to drive
2. limited numbers
3. extreme spec from factory
4. motoring press love
5. decals / look different to lower models

take the 911 3.2 Clubsport as an example. there have been many more faster 911s since. It doesnt have a huge amount different than a std 911. it isnt an RS or GT3. Yet youd pay £100k+ for one now. The R26.R is conceptually similar.

Finally for a more recent comparison consider the Golf GTI clubsport which people have been paying £40k+ for.

For those reasons an R26.R is IMHO an absolute bargain at £20k ish.

All true, cars like the Golf Clubsport will only drag R26R prices up towards them not make them depreciate!

An example of this for me was the 458, for me it was the root of the crazy prices we have seen over the last 5-6 years

in 2009 a good year 2000 Ferrari 360 was £42,000, an average 1998 being mid £30s (and a new 430 was about £100,000 new) then along came the 458 with a MASSIVE price jump to £169k, the car was quite different but it made people look at the 360 as a bargain, that then dragged the 360 prices upwards, people then looked at 550s and they seemed too cheap too and on and on and then it quickly spread to other makes and suddenly there was a desire for manual transmission as if they were collectible etc etc and now not many people can afford the things that once might have!

What if the next Megane RS only has 2 pedals? (let`s hope not) purists and collectors will see that as another plus for the R26R

If it does ill be out my 275 and keeping it for special occasions.

Actually I dont think any of the MK3's except the Trophy R will appreciate so I would sooner enjoy it and I would rather have an Ohlins shod 275 than any other megane going.

Agree about the prices of cars. ANYTHING remotely interesting now is holding value or going up. Even JDM stuff is beyond reach for me as a 2nd car now with R33 GTR's touching 30k ffs.

I see there was one for sale on PH at £24,500 that is now under offer / deposit received. thats the highest price I've seen. Only 20k miles mind you, then again, modified with retro fitted half cage

Values have held pretty solid.

They were 19-20k from dealers back when I bought my 250 Cup in 2010.

Get one with the correct spec (cage and original Titanium exhaust) and I can't see it dropping at all. If I had a double garage, I'd have one of these in there.

I saw that too, it went really quickly too!

I was surprised, I thought that sort of money would be for an all factory options, unmodified car in the low teens mileage

All very well to say that the car is built for it but it made me laugh that the ad mentioned how much time it had spent at the 'Ring (as in lots of)

I must be the only person disappointed by the Ti exhaust, light, long lasting but not amazing sounding to me

I thought the same. Just goes to show that you only need one 'correct' buyer.

From what I've read, you loose out a bit on the "woosh" noise that characterises the engine.

I'd mainly look for it for the weight loss and for having the full package, as it were.

That "woosh" is unique and yes it disappears a bit but isn`t replaced by anything amazing, other aftermarket exhausts keep most of the "woosh" but also get a deeper burble and decent higher end sound! I`d say a Milltek system is a good weight saving on a standard exhaust at something like £500 vs about £2k

AND I THINK it`s only CAT back?

The weight saving is a nice touch but at a hell of a cost (new) and a nice touch for an overall spec

Do / did any of you (owners / ex-owners) keep the car outside?

I'd love one but only have a single garage (already occupied); I guess plastic windows and sun/rain/snow are not a good mix. frown

It`s not so much the back windows, the door windows let water in (not just the R26R) and elsewhere too, I`m not sure whether it`s an outdoors issue but they can get milky patches on the bonnet, might just be from the heat coming from underneath or might be a combination of the heat from below and the elements from above, they also chip along the bonnet edges!

The door water can cause trouble with window relays and speakers

Faded decals

Not sure what else that isn`t common to all Meganes of that era

I'm sure people have found a way around the water ingress problem and not ALL bonnets have done that (but LOTS have)

Park it out on the street and you'll see finger prints on the rear windows, people can't help but tap them to check if it's a genuine R26R
