I bought a Peugeot 2008 1.2l, 2013 active model, only got it for its size and practicality with the boot etc, only issue is power. I could of got a much faster car for £8000 but this Peugeot has really low mileage 13k and 1 owner I couldn't pass that up since it was made in 2013 plus I love the look of them.

I do wish I got something more powerful but at the time I needed a car.

Everything is standard engine etc, what can I do to increase the bhp and speed etc? (keeping this car for a good few year, not in the position to buy another)

please help as its a pain in the back side overtaking, on banks and pulling off haha. its quick in second and third but after that its a lorry.

Generally speaking, with an engine that small any gains given via tuning will be tiny.
Probably not what you want to hear, but the best way to keep that car and make it quicker is an engine swap.... which would probably need suspension / brakes / gearbox etc to match.
A lot of work in that.

I know you say that you can't change cars but the cheapest way will be to do just that.

If you like the 2008 I would look at a higher mileage diesel variant, if over taking is your concern I would think the HDi 92 would feel a lot faster than your 82 VTi, give you better fuel economy, keep you in a low tax bracket and in my opinion drive nicer too.

I drove one of the later incarnations of that engine (HDi 100) to Berlin over New Years and aside from occasionally wanting a sixth gear thought it did the job well, on die autobahn it would sit at 100 mph quite happily and that was with 3 of us in the car. I can imagine the 82 (had a 208 with the same engine in for a period) would feel laborious. Quite engaging little engines round town, just not on the open road.
