Hi all,

The car is a 2011 Citroen DS3 THP

Was a very cold morning in Scotland today, car read -5 when I was setting off for work.

Jumped in the car, engine on, started letting the car defrost the windows.

My car's been suffering from rough idle for a good couple of months now (Its on 40k) however it seemed a bit more prominent this morning so i gave it a light rev - 2k or so.

The car then began to shudder quite a lot and the revs fluctuated between idle and 1.5k following me releasing the throttle.

It did this for 10 seconds or so before an error popped up - Engine Fault: Repair Needed - along with the check engine light.

I turned the car off, left it for a few minutes, turned back on, same thing.

Ideally I'd have left the car at home but I need it for getting to work, so I set off as normal taking it slow. Commute confirmed that the car isn't in limp mode, so I'm a bit confused.

Getting hold of a fault code reader after work so will see what codes its showing.

One other thing worth noting, I run a bottle of Carlube engine cleaner every couple of months, this was done on monday with a full tank of petrol so wondering if this could be related?

So far thinking fuel pump, however fingers crossed it isn't as looking to change cars in April!

Occasionally when the car is under load, acceleration will stop, the car will maintain its current revs and speed while making a clicking noise - almost like its stuttering. If I let off the throttle for a couple of seconds before putting my foot back down the stutter disappears. It's done this from about 3 months after I bought it - right as the warranty expired. Been worried its the timing chain but it seems intermittent so I'd buried my head in the sand for the most part. getmecoat

Any ideas?

High Pressure fuel pump assuming the THP is the 1.6turbo unit. Very common, and sounds like your issue from what you describe.

Coils, high pressure fuel pump. Get your code reader and you can do some basic diagnostics.

Code reader came back with knock threshold exceeded on cylinders 2 and 4. There was also a misfire on cylinder 2.

Any ideas? Thinking the misfire is sparks/coils but the knock is worrying.

Seen the misfire/knock (aka superknock if you use Diagbox/Lexia) before and it was due to coils.

Can you get live data using the tool? Is it an obd dongle with an android/iphone app or a standalone device?

Its a stand alone tool, I'll check after work however I think it only allows for reading and clearing codes as well as clearing service lights.

If it doesn't do live data is it worth picking up a dongle?

Cheers

Sounds the same as when Mrs Geeks went. Was the timing chain stretched

Someone mentioned this on one of the peugeot forums when I was googling earlier. Time to get rid you reckon?

Worried about it leaving me down a financial hole.
