I've just bought a 306 HDI as a new daily, any cheap MODs people recommend?

Will probably get it remapped for some extra power and get some alloys as it's on steels atm.

Some pics of your cars for a bit of inspiration would be nice, see what alloys look good... although I will probably end up getting GTI alloys as I like the look of them.

remap is enough really, but you will want more power. fitting an intercooler is best option and a remap will take it to about 140bhp.

make sure back beam is in good order as can fail.

good tyres and brakes are a must, and enjoy it. ive had 2 and still love them.

Doubt I'll be that bothered by the power.... I've been driving a Mercedes Sprinter 82bhp for the last 9 months!

New tyres are on the list, has 4 different brands at the moment, but if I get alloys I'll get some new tyres anyway.

Is there a straight forward brake upgrade from another vehicle? Or are the standard brakes good enough? Cheers for advise btw!

Awesome, I shall look into doing this.... Seems to be a fair few on ebay, do I need the carrier or does the standard fit the larger discs? And some seem to come with a "23mm master cylinder" does HDI have this as standard and is it worthwhile?

not sure, I never did the mod, I just bought some good quality pads and disks. the 306 is pretty light anyway.

Haha fair enough, my brakes are a bit rubbish and brake lines were advisory on MOT so may aswell do this upgrade if I can find a set at a reasonable price!

How do I tell if it's good or not? Was mot'd last week, surely it would of come up on there if bad?

Chronic amounts of camber usually lol.

Remap from someone heard of i.e. MrWhippy, pro_steve on any of the 306 forums.

With a front mount intercooler I'd say a safe 140HP or thereabouts is possible.

Standard intake is perfect as is, so leave it be.

Decent tyres and fresh brakes is all they want, nice supple little things to throw about really smile

The engine will take a decent amount of abuse, injectors will be in dire need of refurb / replace. Don't forget the clutch!

130 to start?

So many things to consider hmm!

Shall be giving it its first service in who knows how long when I get back from holiday on Sunday, then driving it to Germany next weekend (hopefully!).

I have 3 Gti6's, one supercharged, one standard and one of which is being broken for parts and the front and rear calipers are available including master cylinder if you need that for the upgrade. I also have a spare set of cyclones (gti6 alloys) and a full Jetex ss cat back exhaust system

Wouldn't need master cylinder or rear calipers as the HDI is same as GTI.... have much would you want for front calipers? Have already bought some alloys and 4 Toyo tyres, suit the car well!

I have put the full set of front and rears up for £90 as I had them all sprayed white, they need a good clean but they look good as a set

So, ive had my 306 HDI for 3 years now and know them inside out.

Tuning wise: remap along gives 125bhp/210lbft (mine was by mr whippy, but hes gone off the map for the time being so hdituning is the one to go for)
More power - intercooler + boost controller gives 150bhp and 230lbft (limited torque map) or 280 lbft (full torque), the later requires a clutch upgrade, the former does not.

Suspension - gti6 rear beam and front suspension setup is the way to go, lowering springs needed as gti springs give too high a front end due to being a heavier engine/gearbox setup

Brakes: standard 266m HDI brakes are easily good enough until stage 2, gti items are only heavier making the car slower and are pointless really on a standard or remapped car.

Reliability wise ive just had to replace all the wear and tear, but I do a lot of miles. With these cars you want to stay away from cheap parts or you will be paying twice. Reliability isvery good, engines are bombproof if looked after, service mine every 8k miles.

If you want to ask about anything else just give me a shout smile

Random post but if anyone is interested in a pair of OEM rubber mats for a 306, please get in touch. They've been sat in my garage for eons and are too good to throw at the tip.
