A friends GTA with a newly re built engine has started displaying blue smoke and quite a lot of it out the exhausts after only about 150 miles gentle running!
Any ideas as to what is the likely cause,
Turbo etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello ClassiChimi

Blue smoke is caused by burned oil. There's generally speaking three possible reasons:

- valves tightness (could be a very probable cause on a rebuilt engine)
- piston rings (have to adapt to the cylinder in a newly rebuilt engine, so also a probable cause)
- turbo (blowing cooling oil either in the combution chamber or more likely in the exhaust, where it burns). Not so likely in your case though.

Great to hear from a fellow Alpine-Man, I drive an A310 V6 myself.

Best regards,
delage.

Thanks for the reply Delage,
In this case it's a blown turbo.
This is my friends car and he also owns a V6 A310 both cars are glorious and run really well, good cars, I'm almost tempted to buy the GTA off him but my Tvr uses up too much of my time up as is. wink
