O/H has a 2003 Peugeot 206 GTI (138) and the clutch has gone.

We are in the quandary of wondering whether to have the car fixed, which will cost around £500, or sell it for spares/repairs when it is possibly worth about £100.

Car has loads of equipment, new tyres, £40 of petrol and is in semi-decent nick.

What should we do?! Hate the idea of it being scrapped but then again I wonder about whether it's worth having it fixed!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Try and fix it yourself? If it's pretty much worthless anyway there's no harm in having a go and it's free to drop the gearbox and get the old clutch off.

That's not possible unfortunately - I'm certainly not mechanically minded enough to change the clutch.

While I was thinking of selling is as spares / repairs, I'm tempted to just pay the money, have it fixed and hold onto it. Someone had a look at it and when he said he would just take a few parts and crush the car it got to me a bit. Sentimentality's a *****!

What did you decide to do with this in the end?

£500 seems very steep for a clutch job on one of these. I did it myself on my own on axle stands on mine about 18 months ago.

Clutch kit was £98 and about £15 on 2 litres of gear oil. Wasn't even with any trade discount. Took me 4 & a half hours from pushing the car into the garage and jacking it up etc to driving it back out. So quite how there justifying nearly £400 in labour.
