Clio Mk3 Immobiliser issue (won't start)

I have recent acquired a F1 R27 Clio Mk3.
Had to disconnect the battery and once reconnected the car won't start. doors etc work fine.
When you put the keycard in and start the car, it says steering lock not on. You also get a click for the immobiliser stopping the starting sequence go any further. If I move the steering wheel the steering lock message goes, but then say remove card.
Feels like the immobiliser needs re syncing to the keycard.

Ive had the issue with the steering lock before. It was actually down to the battery for me though. It was a few years old and just gave up sporadically (had been working fine all day and crapped out in the afternoon)
As you've messed with the battery that would be my first port of call. It worked fine before that?
